Annual Visual Art Competition

The eleventh annual Napa Valley Mustard Festival Visual Art Competition & Exhibit will launch the 2005 Festival. The competition is designed to celebrate fine art and support artists in their creative endeavors. Artists may submit works which depict the seasons, faces, events, history, and agriculture of Napa Valley, as well as works of their own choice. Quality of work will be the foundation of judging criteria. Traditional, contemporary, impressionist, and abstract two and three dimensional works of art are welcome.

Artists from throughout Northern and Central California are invited to enter. The deadline is January 12, 2005.

The Napa Valley Mustard Festival Visual Art Competition Exhibit will be unveiled at Mustard Magic, The Festival Grand Opening Event, on January 29.

The exhibit will then move to St. Supéry Vineyards and Winery in Rutherford. The winery will host a wine and hors d’oeuvre Artists’ Reception for juried artists and the public on Saturday, February 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. St. Supéry will host the Exhibit from February 1 through March 25. Photography Contest

The Napa Valley Mustard Festival Photography Contest celebrates mustard in bloom, Napa Valley’s star attraction in late winter/early spring. Wild mustard blooms, depending upon the whim of Mother Nature, from about mid-January through March each year. Brilliant seas of gold blanket hillsides, valleys, and vineyards during this sensational season. Dormant grapevines punctuate the gilded froth in rows and patterns, creating spectacular scenes and attracting artists from far and wide.

The Napa Valley Mustard Festival’s Grand Finale, The Mumm Napa Photo Finish, features a photography contest exhibit and sale each year. The Photography Contest Exhibit at Mumm Napa will run from March 23 through April 28.

Since inception, the Festival has been promoted with original art made especially for that year's sensational season of events.

The artists which have created works for the Festival include Sara Barnes, Claudia Wagar, Dennis Ziemienski, Don Hatfield, Jessel Miller, Guy Buffet, and Ira Yeager. Wagar's and Ziemienski's arworks for second year and third years' posters were selected through competion. Carlo Marchiori was selected to produce new artwork for 2005. His painting, Pulcinella Mostardella, will be featured on Festival merchandise and marketing materials. Marchiori's original painting is offered at Silent Auction thoughtout the season. Festival patrons will have a chance to bid at Mustard Magic , Grand Dîner à Domaine Chandon, and The Mumm Napa Photo Finish.
